Our first holiday season here in Washington was more beautiful than words could begin to describe. It was our first married Christmas as well as our first one away from home, and we had no idea what to expect, really. We woke up on Christmas morning to a fresh fall of snow that blanketed our entire neighborhood with a quiet kind of magic. Looking outside our window was absolute bliss and wonder. We went on a walk with our friends Jordan & Karisa around downtown Renton and soaked it all in; down by Cedar River, across the little market square, and down many beautiful streets. We climbed a half dozen flights of stairs to the rooftop of a building that overlooked downtown and surveyed our neighborhood in awe of all the snow. Our toes were very cold by the end of it, but our spirits were more than full.
Just a few days later, we made the long drive with our church's high school group to Mount Baker for the annual winter retreat. Conor and I got to serve as leaders, and it was such a privilege to get a glimpse into the lives of so many unique individuals. Our New Years weekend was spent surrounded by more snow than we'd ever seen in our lives, breathtaking mountains, & loud, laughing teenagers...it was pretty much perfect. Every morning was a sight to behold - splendor, majesty, and abundance are some of the words that came to mind looking out at the views before us; unmistakable attributes of God, the Creator of all of it, and reminders of His sweet blessings. Praise God for the beauty in creation that points to His glory alone! -
